Rising to Action
Updated: Dec 6, 2018
Life is full of every day challenges. Some larger than others. The question we have to ask ourselves is, what makes us take action? What inspires us or confines us in such a way that we cannot bare to be silent? We look back at the change makers of history who stood up when a need to be free, resonated so deeply within them, that the very fiber of their being was willing to face brutal consequences. The thought of abiding by something just because it was the way society said it needed to be, burned a hole in their very existence, screaming for freedom.
If you've read my story you understand what running means to me. Please recognize that it still means this to me even now. Although I fight the feeling every day, I admit, I still struggle with being afraid when I run, or when I walk to my car in the dark, or even when I'm home alone. But, this is only the beginning. Just like a weight loss goal, we cannot get to the desired result simply by working out one night per month. It takes motivation, determination, and a desire for something better that gets us where we want to be. I cannot change that there will always be evil in the world, but I can change our ability to defend ourselves against it.
I would love to hear what makes you rise to action. What injustice do you see, hear, or fall victim to, that you want to speak out against?
